Grayson Metzger’s three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and No. 17 Severna Park High defeated 20th ranked Northeast, 4-1, in an Anne Arundel County softball contest Wednesday afternoon.

Morgan Strennen reached on an error to start the Falcons’ sixth, and Emma Yale followed with a single. Metzger, the lone freshman on Severna Park’s roster, sent a shot over the fence for the game-winner.

The Falcons went up 1-0 early in the second as Metzger, Claire Hanratty, Thrift and Casey Beck. Northeast battled back in the top of the 6th and scored a run on a single by sophomore Taylor Dittmar, and an error.

Dittmar and Brittany McGee each had two hits for Northeast. Beck had three hits in addition to Metzger’s big fly.

Northeast travels to Old Mill Friday in league action. Severna Park hosts Annapolis Monday.
