32-point performance powers the Mustangs to a 71-65 road victory
Visiting Meade got a spectacular 32-point performance from Mazhi Thames, Tuesday, as the Mustangs knocked off No. 16 Oakland Mills in a non-conference boys basketball game, played in Howard County.
The host Scorpions held a 20-17 lead after one quarter, but the Mustangs, fueled primarily by Thames and fellow captain Tre’ Dunn, who netted 24 points, outscored their hosts 40-27 over the next two quarters to surge to a 57-47 lead heading into the final quarter.
Thames finished with 14 field goals, including his team’s only three three-pointers. Meade (5-1) also shined at the free throw line where it went 8-of-12 and the Mustangs received eight points from TJ Speight.
Oakland Mills (4-2) put three players in double figures with Daeshawn Eaton scoring 14, Jaelen Gaymon netting 12 and Frederick Eiland II adding 11. In addition, Dooley Riggs scored nine points.
