VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS OF ALL-STARS

The Maryland All-Star boys and girls basketball teams are preparing to square off with the Pennsylvania All-Stars in the 19th annual Mid-State Roundball Showcase on Saturday at Middletown High School in Harrisburg, PA.

According to its website, the Showcase is the longest running All-Star game between two states in the country.

The boys team is led by former Glenelg head coach Jeremy Snyder.  The All-Stars are loaded at the guard position and look to avenge last season’s 102-99 loss to the border state to the north. Maryland last won in 2009 with a 121-116 victory.

St. Frances’ All-Metro point guard RJ Williams will lead the way.  Williams is headed to Loyola University in the fall.

“This is a very athletic team with mostly wings and guards,” said Snyder.  “Our strengths are ball handling.”

The Maryland All-Stars, who will play at 8:30 p.m., will look to do the most damage in transition, utilizing its speed.  All-Metro selection Ryan McTavish (South Carroll) and James Milton (Parkville) will provide some size in the paint.

The Maryland All-Star girls team will play in the first game, at 7:15 p.m. The team is sparked by 2011 All-Metro selections Ciara Webb (Patterson), Tracey Carrington (Dundalk), Zameria Jones (Joppatowne) and Brya Freeland (Spalding).

Webb is headed to Towson University, while Spalding duo Freeland (Lafayette) and Sherae Swinson (Binghampton), are also D-I bound.
