McDonogh girls soccer player Ashley Spivey, already a seasoned international veteran as she enters her junior year, committed this week to play for the University of Maryland after her final two years of high school, the Baltimore Sun’s Glenn Graham has reported.
Spivey is a member of the US U17 national team and a two-time All-Metro selection. Recently, she traveled to Denmark where she helped the United States win the Nordic Cup as a starting midfielder. She enters the 2010 campaign with 45 goals and 26 assists in her high school career.
“I’m really about my state and supporting where I came from. I grew up in Maryland and [have] been here all my life, so I don’t think I could have gone anywhere else,” Spivey told Graham. “Family is very important to me as well, so I’ll be close to home. I visited (Maryland) and fell in love with it, so there was no need to look anywhere else. It’s a huge relief – I’m happy and excited.”
