No. 2 Eagles lock up IAAM A hoops second-seed; Dixon reaches 1,000-point plateau

McDonogh’s Taleah Dixon surpassed the 1,000-point career scoring mark during the No. 2 Eagles’ victory over seventh-ranked John Carroll School in an IAAM A Conference basketball match. Dixon, who will play for Loyola University next season, finished with 11 points.

Aleah Nelson scored 20 points and Elon University recruit Kayla Liles added 18 as second-ranked McDonogh School defeated No. 7 John Carroll School, 77-52, in an IAAM A Conference basketball contest in Owings Mills Thursday.

The Eagles (19-3 overall, 7-2 IAAM A) established a commanding 43-22 halftime cushion as Jessica Booth finished with 13 points and Loyola-bound senior guard Taleah Dixon had 11 points, surpassing the 1,000-point career scoring mark. Branyelle Carrillo led John Carroll (14-6, 4-5 IAAM A) with 16 points and Jordan Wakefield added 13.

McDonogh, which has the No. 2 seed for next week’s league tournament, hosts St. Vincent Pallotti in its regular season league finale Friday before closing the regular season with a non-league contest against New York’s Long Island Lutheran Sunday.

John Carroll is at top-ranked and two-time defending IAAM A champ St. Frances Academy Friday afternoon. The Patriots, who complete regular season play against North Harford Monday, will play No. 3 Roland Park Country School in the league quarterfinals Tuesday.
