Baltimore pair are among just 25 female players to receive this elite national honor


USA Today has announced its 2019-20 Preseason All-USA Today Girlss Soccer Team and it includes two Baltimore area players.

Senior Lily McCarty of McDonogh and junior Payton Patrick of Hereford were each named to the 25-memeber squad compiled Sheldon Shealer of TopDrawerSoccer.com for USA Today.

The criteria for selection includes past performance, level of competition and strength of schedule.

McCarthy, a midfielder who has committed to play her college soccer for the University of Tennessee scored 15 goals and delivered 17 assists in 2018 for the Eagles, annually among the best girls teams in the nation.

Patrick has been a high school star since her freshman campaign and she now has more than 40 goals in just two seasons with the Bulls. The junior forward has already committed to the University of South Carolina.
