Sophomore catcher Miranda Burton went 4-for-5 with three RBI and Rilee Fazenbaker finished with three hits, two RBI and scored two runs as No. 1 Eastern Tech High defeated No. 16 Sparrows Point, 13-7, in a Class 2A North Region Section I softball final Wednesday in Baltimore County.

The defending region champ Mavericks (18-1 overall) will host third-ranked Hereford, Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. for the region title and a spot in the state 2A final four Tuesday afternoon at Bachman Park in Glen Burnie. Hereford, which handed Eastern Tech its only loss, defeated Carver A&T, 7-5, in the section II final Wednesday.

Nina Metz and Natalie Bates each had two hits and two RBI for Eastern Tech, which scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to erase a 4-0 deficit. Senior pitcher Jodie Bronushas allowed five earned runs on eight hits and struck out eight.
