The McDonogh Eagles took a slim lineup out to the Walsh Jesuit Ironman tournament in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, but saw Kevin Marvel stick out the tournament for an eighth-place finish.

Marvel went 2-3 in the weekend tournament, earning wins over Copley’s (Ohio) Sam Wheeler and Keith Corliss of Germantown Academy.

After the first round bye, Marvel beat Wheeler in the tournament quarterfinals, 12-11 in double overtime, shattering the wrestler’s former streak of 50 consecutive wins.

Marvel dropped in the semis to No. 3 seeded Huston Evans of St. Paris Graham (Ohio), 16-4, before beating Corliss to guarantee his placement.

McDonogh will come together as a team again this Thursday, hosting Archbishop Curley in a dual meet.
