No. 8 Marriotts Ridge helf off unranked Atholton, 2-1, on Wednesday to move one step closer to the school’s first Howard County girls soccer title.
With the win, the Mustangs and No. 9 ranked River Hill have identical, 9-1-0 records in Howard County play and will face off on Thursday for the league crown.
But before looking ahead, visiting Marriotts Ridge had to handle the upset minded Raiders.
Senior forward Katherine Kanner finished a pass from Maxine Brewer to give the Mustangs (11-1-1) a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Atholton tied the game with a Bridgette Snyder goal, assisted by Michele Hart with 29 minutes left in the game.
The score remained knotted at 1-1 until Zoey Stukenberg scored with about five minute to play to push the Mustangs into the win column.
