In a hard fought battle at Baltimore Lutheran on Friday afternoon, the host Saints delighted a spirited Homecoming crowd with a 14-6 victory over MIAA C Conference rival Friends School.
Junior quarterback Aaron Armes led the way for the Saints with 143 yards on the ground (on 12 carries) and a seven yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Jay Davis. Junior running back John Nunes also scored a touchdown for Lutheran, scampering six yards to pay-dirt in the first quarter, part of a 15 carry, 54-yard day.
Friends worked hard to get back in the game, scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Nate Hockett. However, the point after kick was blocked and after a failed onside kick, Lutheran ran out the clock for the victory.
Friends was led on offense by fullback (and recently converted offensive guard) Jon Loewenberg, who carried the ball 20 times for 83 rushing yards. Next week, both Lutheran and Friends host MIAA C conference foes on Senior Day, with Friends welcoming in St. Vincent Pallotti for a 4:00 pm start on Friday, and Lutheran inviting in Annapolis Area Christian for a Saturday game with a 1:00 pm start time.
