The Baltimore Lutheran football team moved to 5-0 on the season as the Saints routed Friends, 32-8, in its MIAA C Conference, opener on Saturday, at Friends.
After a first quarter field goal by Dave Dooley gave the Saints a 3-0 lead, Friends (0-4, 0-2) jumped in front with a second quarter touchdown. That’s all Lutheran would allow and the Saints quickly went back on top with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Ames to Dan Weinel, to lead 10-8 at the half.
John Nunes, who led Lutheran with 127 yards rushing, returned the opening kick of the second half 75 yards for a touchdown. Ames, who finished with 50 yards on the ground, added two more touchdown passes in the third quarter to set the final margin.
Ames connected with Jordan Smith for 16 yards and found Weinel again for a 14-yard score.
Matt Brause had a monster game for the Lutheran defense, recording 15 tackles with a sack, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Nunes, Jay Davis and Adam Sczcypinski each had eight tackles.
Next Friday, Lutheran will travel to Arundel High School to face Annapolis Area Christian for the first of their two meetings this year. AACS is also 5-0 and both teams are 1-0 in the league.
