Resurgent McDonogh lands in Top 10; Franklin falls

Off to a 3-0 start, McDonogh School has risen in the state media Top 25 poll. The Eagles are 9th in the second poll of the regular season.

The Eagles are one of 11 Baltimore region squads in the state poll. McDonogh is the biggest mover in the latest poll, thanks to a 35-3 rout of Franklin last weekend.

St. Frances Academy, which has its 26-game win streak snapped by California powerhouse Mater Dei, is again the unanimous No. 1 with Calvert Hall College (3rd) and Archbishop Spalding (No. 4) in the Top 5. Mount St. Joseph (6th) and McDonogh complete area representation in the state Top 10.

Franklin fell from 8th to No. 13, but remains the area’s highest ranked public team. Also of local interest in the poll are No. 14 Loyola Blakefield, No. 19 Milford Mill Academy, No. 20 Mervo, No. 24 Elkton and No. 25 Dunbar.

South River received votes but did not crack the Top 25. Dundalk and Broadneck each had votes in the previous poll, but fell out of consideration after losses over the weekend.
