Wyatt throws a two-hit shutout at Hopkins


The MIAA A Conference baseball tournament resumed Tuesday with the first elimination game of the double-elimination event as Loyola hosted Archbishop Spalding on the turf at Johns Hopkins University and routed the Cavaliers, 10-0, in five innings.

The Dons (14-9) sent ace Matt Wyatt to the mound and he shutdown on two hits, while striking out eight in the five inning contest. Loyola made it a five inning game with three big innings, scoring four in the second and three in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Nate Beal hit a two-run home run, while Emmett Reynolds and Sean Kelly each went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s each. Kelly also scored two runs.

Jeff Snider added an RBI double, walked twice and scored a run for Loyola. In addition, Danny Sheeler drove in a pair of runs and scored once.

Loyola stays alive and will host McDonogh on Wednesday in another elimination game. McDonogh sent Loyola into the elimination bracket on Saturday before falling into the elimination bracket itself with a loss to Gilman on Monday.

Spalding ended its season at 18-13.
