Kayel Locke scored a game-high 31 points to lead McDonogh’s boys basketball team past MIAA A Conference rival Calvert Hall, 72-61, on Friday night.

Locke, a forward, went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and scored 13 points in the first quarter.  The Eagles  doubled-up on the Cardinals, 24-12, in the first quarter to take control of the game early.

BJ Andrews added 19 points and Denzel Walker contributed nine for the McDonogh (13-6 overall, 5-2 league).

Trailing 32-23 at the half, Calvert Hall made a run in the third quarter to get back in the game.  Led by Justin Beck (13 points), the Cardinals outscored their opponents, 21-14, in the period to go ahead by four points briefly.

But the Eagles made their move in the final eight minutes.  The host team scored 36 points in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.

Julian Davis, Michael Wade and Nick Johnson added 10 points apiece for Calvert Hall (10-12, 3-4).
