Johnson paces Raiders with 16 points and 16 rebounds

Coming off one of its best seasons in years, the Loch Raven boys basketball teams got a new year underway, Friday, with a big 66-39 home win over Chapelgate Christian Academy.

The Raiders were led by sophomore All-Baltimore County forward Cortez Johnson, who had 16 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots in a dominating effort.

Senior Guard Sean Powell ended his night with 11 points, nine assists and four steals.

After building a six point lead at the end of one quarter, Loch Raven outscored Chapelgate 21-8 in the second quarter to take control.

“We are building off of a successful 2018-19 campaign where we ended as the three seed for the 1A North state playoffs,” said Loch Raven coach Brandon Thomas. “Playing great team basketball and being in great position defensively is our focal point this season.”

Chapelgate (3-2) did not have a player score in double figures, as Jordan Praylow led the Yellow Jackets, while Jax Felder and Lance Richards each netted eight.
