Stevenson University sophomore Avery Gabbard, a graduate of Broadneck, had a huge performance, on Saturday, as she helped the Mustangs defeat both Wilkes College and Albright College in women’s volleyball.
Gabbard totaled 18 kills and 20 digs in the two contests, as Stevenson improved to 6-0 this season and extended its overall winning streak to 12.
Several other local athletes are also making major contributions for the Mustangs.
Junior Brooke Gilley, from C. Milton Wright, had eight kills in the double header, while junior Alexa Carney of Towson High, had 18 digs. In addition, junior Amy Rudolf (North East) chipped in with 15 digs, 18 assists and five service aces.
Freshman Jamie Krens (Franklin) served served nine straight winners as Stevenson rallied from a 4-0 deficit in one of it games with Wilkes, and then closed the match with eight straight winners.
Finally, Samantha Shetterly, another freshman, had eight digs. Shetterly played for Mount de Sales in high school.
