With the exception of defending MIAA water polo champion Loyola Blakefield, it was a tough weekend at the Philmore Cup for the Baltimore schools, as they fell 11-4 to their Pennsylvania counterparts.

Loyola was impressive in earning three of Baltimore’s four points by going 3-0 in the event.  The Dons defeated host Episcopal Academy, 13-6; routed Haverford, 20-8; and downed Germantown Academy, 16-5.

The Dons showed excellent offensive balance as goals came from six different players in each of their first two games, and eight players in the third contest.  Oliver Bennett led the way with 12 goals and Michael Feihe finished with 10.

Loyola’s defense was also impressive, as it allowed just 5.4 goals per game.  Kevin Balhoff and Alex Porter led the effort on the defensive front, while Cole Lindner and Colin McGrath played well while sharing time in goal.

Calvert Hall knocked off Penn Charter, 14-9, for Baltimore’s other win, but the Cardinals also lost to Malvern, 11-9, and Episcopal, 16-12.

Gilman, Moun St. Joseph and McDonogh also took part in the event, but the trio will look forward to better days as they combined to go 0-9.
