Boys’ Latin fall in semifinals; Rowdy Red, Lions unable to advance
The start of the 4th of July weekend brought little fireworks for area squads at the National High School Lacrosse Showcase in Howard County. No locals reached the title round on Friday’s final day of action.
Boys’ Latin School reached the White session semifinals, but fell to Montgomery County’s Bullis School. Bullis broke a 7-7 fourth quarter deadlock with back-to-back goals.
The Lakers bested Washington Catholic Athletic Conference stronghold Gonzaga College from the District in the playoffs’ opening round.
Calvert Hall, courtesy of a perfect run (3-0) in Thursday’s pool play advanced to the playoffs, but the Cardinals dropped a 9-8 decision to Indiana’s Culver Academy. Culver went on to defeat Bullis in the championship game at Blandair Park in Columbia.
St. Paul’s School’s rising senior midfield Grant Wille was named to the all-tournament team along with Severna Park rising junior midfield Josh Burkhardt, Loyola Blakefield rising junior attack Mason Cook, Severn School rising junior midfielder/faceoff specialist Reid Gillis and Calvert Hall rising junior attack Shuey Kelly.
Rowdy Red (Archbishop Spalding) and Lions (Maryvale Prep) both fell in the girls semifinals Friday morning at Troy Park in Elkridge. The Lions lost to Pennsyvlania’s ABC (Archbishop Carroll), 9-5, while Stone Ridge School from Montgomery County held off Rowdy Red, 6-5.
