The public basketball season kicks off Monday afternoon, and a longtime season opening event, will have reboot. The Spark at the Park will take place at Forest Park Monday and Tuesday.
The boys’ basketball event replaces the Function in the Junction Mixer at Walbrook which had been a fixture on the early season Baltimore City league schedule for three decades.
No. 20 Douglass and Randallstown, who’ve battled several times for state region championships the last decade, renew their rivalry in the opening game at 4 p.m. Defending City league champ Edmondson will play Carver Vo-Tech at 5:30 p.m.
No. 13 Forest Park plays Theodore Roosevelt (D.C.) in the nightcap at 7. Tuesday’s slate opens with perennial UCBAC power Aberdeen taking on Douglass at 4 p.m., followed by defending Class 3A champ Milford Mill against Mervo. Forest Park plays IBE in the finale at 7.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students with ID.
