Mount St. Joseph’s Mack Lewnes battled his way to the finals of the 2010 NCAA Wrestling Tournament, but the top-seeded junior from Cornell University was defeated by Iowa’s Jay Borschel, the No. 2 seed, and fell, 6-2.

Both wrestlers came into the final with undefeated records and Borschel took the early upper hand with a single leg takedown late in the opening period, Trailing 2-1 in the third period, Lewnes released Borschel for an escape, but he was caught by another single leg, which made the deficit too much to overcome.

Lewnes entered the event with a 35-0 record and won three times to reach the final. In his opening match he defeated Nathan Lee of Boise State, 5-2, and routed Colby Covington of Oregon State, 13-1, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Lewnes survived a war with Nebraska’s Stephen Dwyer, winning 4-2 in double overtime.

Lewness was a fourt-time MIAA champion while at St. Joe.
