St. Frances Academy senior basketball center Greg Lewis told Varsity Sports Network Saturday evening he’s narrowed his college choices. Indiana University, Maryland, North Carolina-Wilmington, Rutgers and South Florida are the schools in running for his services.
“I want to make a decision before the season starts,” said Lewis before a workout session at the Carmelo Anthony Center in east Baltimore. He’s also holding offers from Colorado, Georgia, UMASS, Ohio State, Villanova and Xavier.
Lewis, a consensus Top 20 national recruit at his position, has steadily improved the past two seasons for St. Frances. His stock has risen on the summer AAU circuit as a member of the Nike Baltimore Elite. In June, he participated in the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 at the University of Virginia.
Though he doesn’t have a favorite, Lewis does have a connection with Maryland and South Florida. Sean Mosley, who played with Lewis during Lewis’ freshman season at St. Frances, is about to start his junior campaign in College Park. Keith Booth, a former Dunbar High standout and current Maryland assistant, has been on Lewis’ trail.
Lewis is being courted by South Florida via assistant Eric Skeeters, who previously was an assistant at Towson. Skeeters was an assistant at St. Frances under William Wells when the Panthers won three straight Baltimore Catholic League championships with Mark Karcher back in the mid-1990s.
Heading into his fourth season on the Panthers’ varsity, Lewis is arguably the top player in the area. He’s the only returnee from last season’s BCL first and second teams.
