Darby Sinunu scored with about seven minutes left in the game to lift No. 17 Centennial to a 2-1 win over Hammond on Wednesday.

The Eagles improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1 in Howard County (HoCo standings) while the Bears fell to 2-2 and 1-2 respectively.

Centennial scored in the fourth minute when Caroline Baker followed up a long shot from Bethany Lucas that was initially saved by the Hammond freshman keeper Julia Reed.

Overall, the first half was fairly even with the Eagles outshooting the Bears, 7-4.  Hammond was able to tie the game before halftime.

Centennial dominated the second half outshooting Hammond, 15-1.  The winning goal was scored off of a corner kick that was deflected back out of the penalty box.  Darby Sinunu hit a powerful shot from outside the 18 to the upper right corner of the goal with about seven minutes left in the game.

Reed made a couple of strong saves to keep Hammond in the game.  One was of the spectacular variety, when she dove out to her right to stop a hard shot by Eagles freshman Ruthie Lucas to keep the game tied.  Reed ended up with nine saves.
