With just one year of high school baseball under his belt at St. Paul’s School, John Kuchno went to Wake Forest University and initially sought a walk-on opportunity with the Demon Deacon baseball squad.
Prior to being invited to tryout at Wake, Kuchno continued to pitch last summer and he also continued to grow. Four inches taller than he was the previous year, Kuchno was noticed while pitching in a showcase in Indianapolis by Ohio State University assistant coach Mike Stafford.
Stafford invited Kuchno to visit Ohio State on his way back from Indy and soon thereafter he accepted an offer to join the Buckeye pitching staff.
In addition to playing one year of baseball at St. Paul’s, he also played two seasons of basketball in Brooklandville.
