Shendell Chase’s touchdown run and two-point conversion was the difference for Joppatowne High Monday evening as the Mariners held off Aberdeen, 8-6, in an UCBAC Chesapeake Division match.
Aberdeen (0-5 overall, 0-2 Chesapeake) gained the advantage in the second quarter on a three-yard touchdown run by Kenard Squirrell, completing a 70-yard drive. The Eagles had a chance for a two-touchdown lead before half, but were stopped at the Mariners’ 2-yard line.
Chase scored on a five-yard run for Joppatowne (4-1 overall, 2-0 Chesapeake) in the third quarter, completing an 85-yard drive, then followed with the two-point conversion. The Mariners have won their four decisions since openingwith a loss to Perry Hall.
Joppatowne welcomes Bel Air Friday evening while Aberdeen hosts Havre de Grace in Chesapeake Division action.
