Gilman junior Cyrus Jones put on a show Tuesday evening in Brooklandville, as he scored 33 points to carry the visiting Greyhounds to a 68-65 MIAA B Conference basketball victory over St. Paul’s.

St. Paul’s, which is batting with Glenelg Country for first place in the league, raced out to an early 12-2 lead, but Jones got hot from beyond the three point arc to help Gilman close within three before the end of the opening period.

The game remained close the rest of the way as key players on both sides took turns lifting their squads.  In addition to his 33 points, Jones contributed five rebounds and two blocks for Gilman.

Ryan Ripken added 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, while Chad Copeland had seven points and 11 rebounds.

For St. Paul’s, Nigel Sydnor led the way with 22 points and Tanner Brooks had 11.

The loss dropped St. Paul’s (17-6, 14-2) a half game behind Glenelg Country in the chase for the top spot in the conference.  The Crusaders, however, will have the opportunity to gain ground on Friday when they travel to Ellicott City to challenge the Dragons.

Gilman (11-14 overall) solidified its hold on fourth place in the league as it moved to 9-7 in conference play.
