John Carroll and Maryvale Prep entered their Saturday volleyball showdown as the dominant teams in the IAAM B Conference, but after five tough sets, including a few extra points in game five, the visiting Patriots prevailed with a 25-17, 25-17, 18-25, 24-26, 18-16 victory, to complete a season sweep of the Lions.
Taylor Schafer had nine kills for John Carroll, while Jenny Hottle had seven kills and three aces. Nicole Wagerner had six kills, while Alissa Beuttner had four kills and eight assists. In addition, Heather Dunn contributed three aces.
John Carroll remains unbeaten in the league, now at 7-0. The Patriots are 9-3 overall. Maryvale (7-6 overall) is now 6-2 in the conference.
