The Patriots will host Gilman in its playoff opener, while Loyola will travel to Curley
Visiting John Carroll scored six times in the top of the sixth inning to build a 10-1 lead and held on when Loyola scored five times in the home half of the inning to capture an 11-7 win in the final game of the MIAA A Conference baseball regular season.
The win secured for the Patriots the fourth seed in the MIAA A Conference double-elimination tournament and they host defending champion Gilman in an opening round game on Friday. Loyola was relegated to the sixth seed in the tournament and the Dons will visit third-seeded Archbishop Curley in Friday’s other first round game.
Matt Archibald went 2-for-3 and hit home run. He also scored twice and drove in two run. Griffin Shirk doubled and drove in three runs and William Weiman went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and had an RBI.
Josh Bonaparte hit a home run for Loyola and went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. In addition Leo Foust had two hits, including a double and Brett Hanson had a pair of hits, a run scored and one RBI.
