The atmosphere was not as intense as an in- season high school basketball game, but the effort was there as young players worked hard to make a positive impression during a sumer league tournament which got underway at Gilman on Saturday.

Three MIAA programs were in action, along with five other teams, and John Carroll came away with the best showing, as the Patriots went 3-0, including a tough 46-43 win over host Gilman.

Gilman finished 2-1, picking up wins against state champion City and WCAC power Good Counsel.

Tournament action continues on Sunday, as all eight teams return. There will be a pair of quarterfinals at noon and two more quartefinals at 1:00 p.m., followed by the by two semifinal games at 2:30 p.m. and the championship game at 3:30 p.m.
