Less than five minutes from possibly settling for a scoreless tie with Archbishop Spalding, in a MIAA A Conference soccer match on Thursday, John Carroll got a Golden Goal in the 95th minute from Tony Orbino, to claim a 1-0, double-overtime victory in Bel Air.
The victory allowed John Carroll (2-6-0, 2-5-0) to complete a season sweep of Spalding and keep itself in the thick of the conference playoff race. The Patriots are currently tied for sixth place with Archbishop Curley with six points.
Danny Bell registered the assist on the game winner and Jake Brown made five saves to record the shutout.
Spalding fell to 4-8-2 overall and the Cavaliers remain winless in the league at 0-8-0.
