Jarred Jones (pictured left) had 17 points and 11 rebounds in his final regular season match on John Carroll School’s court as the No. 6 Patriots defeated Missouri’s De Smet Jesuit, 59-42, Sunday afternoon in Bel Air.

Three seniors Jones, who will play for Loyola University next season, Mihael Maric and Marcus James were honored for their contributions before the non-league match. After losing a tough overtime decision to Mount St. Joseph Friday evening, John Carroll (24-6 overall) built a nine-point halftime lead against the midwest school that featured a starting front court of 6-foot-11, 6-6 and 6-8 Nolan Berry.

Berry, one of the nation’s top frontcourt performers who’s committed to 2011 and 2010 national runner-up Butler University, led De Smet with 16. But De Smet shot only 35-percent against a stingy Patriot defense.

Kamau Stokes had a solid outing with 16 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds for John Carroll. Rodney Elliott (10 pts., three rebounds, two steals, two assists) and Justin Jenifer (10 points, two assists and two assists) were tough in the backcourt for the Patriots, who will begin their pursuit of a second straight MIAA A Conference championship Friday evening.

The Patriots will host either No. 7 St. Frances Academy or Archbishop Spalding in a semifinal match. Spalding plays at St. Frances in the opening round Wednesday.
