After a strong preseason, John Carroll’s baseball team opened regular season play on Friday with a pair of victories in a day/night double-header at the Ripken Stadium Complex in Aberdeen.
In the afternoon contest, the 7-0 Patriots collected 12 hits in a 15-7 victory over Souderton Area High (PA), which is best known as the alma mater of major league pitcher Jamie Moyer.
John Carroll received a fine pitching performances from seniors Ryan Kirby and Tim Ryan, who combined on a four-hitter. On offense, the Patriots were led by Trent Shaw, Nick Naumann and Josh Brown, who each collected two hits.
In the night cap, under chilly conditions, Shaw and David McGee combined on another four-hitter to outlast visiting St. John’s from Long Island, NY, 2-1. Shaw also went 2-for-3 at the plate to once again pace the Patriots at the plate.
