Patriots and Panthers reach semifinals, while SJCP falls into the consolation bracket

Three MIAA basketball teams, including two from the A Conference, are competing in the eight-team Bullis Invitational Tournament this weekend in D.C. and in Friday’s opening round, John Carroll and St. Vincent Pallotti each came up with opening round victories.

John Carroll, which remains undefeated at 5-0, moved forward with an impressive 72-56 win over Landon in its opening round game. Jalen Bryant led the way with 17 points and Tyson Commander scored 16 points. The Patriots also got 12 points from Jeannot Basima and will now faced St. Mary’s-Ryken in Saturday’s semifinals (6:15 p.m.).

Pallotti moved into the semifinals with a 57-47 win over Benedictine (VA) as the Panthers evened their season record at 3-3. Pallotti will face host Bullis at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Bullis reached the second round with an 84-41 win over St. John’s Catholic Prep of the MIAA B. The Vikings (3-4) will challenge Benedictine in the consolation bracket on Saturday (2:45 p.m.).
