Loyola senior runner Matt Jablonski, one of the nation’s premier high school distance runners, has announced his commitment to compete for the University of Oregon, one of the nation’s elite distance running programs.
Jablonski, who won his second consecutive MIAA cross country individual title last week, owns numerous local course records and has also established a book of indoor and outdoor track distance marks.
An outstanding soccer player who started on Loyola’s 2009 MIAA A Conference playoff team, Jablonski made the difficult decision to give up soccer this summer to focus on his running, exclusively.
At Oregon, he will be following in the footsteps of current Duck senior Matt Centrowtiz. Centrowitz, a senior from Broadneck, is a two-time Pac-10 1,500 meter champion. He was one of the most successful and decorated high school runners in Maryland’s history.
