Despite leading most of the way, McDonogh coach Donta Evans never could very comfortable during his team’s tight MIAA A Conference basketball battle with Archbishop Spalding, on Friday night in Owings Mills.  In the end, however, Evans’ Eagles emerged with an important 51-48 victory.

Spalding held an early 6-4 lead, but McDonogh quickly moved in front and never trailed again.  The Eagles led 25-22 at the half and built their biggest lead, eight points, in the third quarter.  BJ Andrews led McDonogh with 16 points and Kayel Locke added 15 points and 11 rebounds.

In a game where possession of the basketball was critical, Taysean Scott also turned in an excellent performance for McDonogh, with five points and eight big assists.

Spalding was led by 13 points from Grant Grant and 12 by Earl Potts.  The Cavaliers had two opportunities to tie the contest in the final 30 seconds of the fourth quarter, but were unable to come up a critical score.
