Mount de Sales Academy, John Carroll, Mount Carmel and Friends School are the top seeds for the IAAM volleyball tournament which begins Friday afternoon.

In the C, defending champ St. Timothy’s School begins its defense with a first round contest at Beth T’filoh School Friday afternoon, with the winner moving on to a quarterfinal date with Mount Carmel. Mount Carmel placed first in the Gold division during the regular season.

Friends School placed first in the Red division, and posted the best overall league record (11-1). The Quakers host St. John’s Catholic Prep in Tuesday’s quarterfinals. The other quarterfinal matches feature Glenelg Country School at Catholic, and Baltimore Lutheran hosting Oldfields School.

The B tourney starts Tuesday with two quarterfinals games featuring Annapolis Area Christian hosting Roland Park Country School, and Institute of Notre Dame traveling to Mercy. The IND/Mercy winner advance to the semifinals against No. 2 seed Maryvale Prep.

Defending champ and No. 20 John Carroll hosts the AACS/RPCS winner Thursday. The Patriots seek to become the first repeat B champ since Notre Dame Prep in 2004 and 2005.

Only once in the history of the IAAM a team has won three straight titles. No. 3 Mount de Sales begin its chase a three-peat Tuesday against either St. Vincent Pallotti or Chapelgate Christian Academy in the quarterfinals.

Pallotti plays at Chapelgate in Friday’s opening round. The other opening round match features St. Mary’s at McDonogh School with the winner advancing to No. 2 seed and ninth-ranked Archbishop Spalding Tuesday.

No. 15 Seton Keough and 18th ranked Notre Dame Prep meet in Tuesday’s quarterfinals. The Gators, seeking a second straight trip to the finals, swept the Blazers during the regular season. The other quarterfinal features a pair of Top 20 teams as No. 19 Bryn Mawr School travels to 10th-ranked St. Paul’s School.

Semifinal round matches in all three conferences take place Oct. 28, with Championship Saturday, Oct. 30 at Roland Park Country School.
