Patterson Mill handles Smithsburg for 1A state boys lacrosse showdown with Sparrows Point; Century punches ticket to 2A state final

It will be an all-area final in the Class 1A state boys lacrosse playoffs as Sparrows Point High and Patterson Mill won state semifinal contests Friday evening at Havre de Grace.

The defending state champ Huskies raced out to a 16-2 first half advantage en route to a 20-11 victory over Washington County’s Smithsburg. Senior midfield Connor Madsen finished with five goals and an assist for the Huskies, and Kevin Dyke added four goals and an assist.

Sparrows Point, which lost to Smithsburg in last season’s 1A state semifinal, scored the game’s first three goals. The Pointers will meet Patterson Mill, Monday afternoon at Paint Branch in Montgomery County.

Century is on the verge of a first state championship after a 7-4 victory over Parkside in 2A state semifinal at Northeast. Matt Daniel scored two goals and handed out two assists and Brett Kropinski added a goal and an assist.

The Carroll County school (16-2) led to wire-to-wire, scoring the first three goals for its first state final. The Knights will play either Glenelg or Hereford for title, Tuesday evening at Paint Branch.

Hereford and Glenelg play Saturday at Northeast in the other 2A state Final Four match.
