Kimmy Johnson had a two-run single and Amanda Huff pitched a one-hitter as Rising Sun High handed No. 9 C. Milton Wright a 4-0 defeat in an UCBAC Chesapeake softball contest Monday afternoon in Cecil County. In completing the two-game season sweep, Rising Sun (6-0 overall and Chesapeake) put a stranglehold on the division crown and a spot in the UCBAC finals next month.
Danielle Smith opened Rising Sun’s first at-bat with a bunt single and advanced to second on an error. Joelle Arrante doubled Smith home for the eventual game-winning RBI. Arrante later scored Huff’s sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Alivia Schoff doubled, followed by a single from Huff. Huff stole second and Johnson singled home Schoff and pinch runner Leslie Thomas, giving Rising Sun full command.
Huff carried a no-hitter in the seventh before Amanda Ator’s one-out single ended it. Huff struck out eight and walked six.
The Mustangs (4-3, 4-2 Chesapeake) have league matches with Perryville Wednesday and at North East on Thursday.
