Christina Romano threw a one-hitter and struck out five batters to earned her first career win as No. 13 River Hill beat Centennial, 2-1, on Monday.
Emily Bowman struck out nine batters and walked three to pace the Eagles ().
The Hawks (2-0 overall, 2-0 league) got its first run of the game in the bottom of the second. Sarah Rusenko and Lauren Black each earned a walk before senior Abbey DeFeo singled in Rusenko.
Centennial tied the game in the top of the fifth. Bowman reached base on a throwing error and advanced to second on a pickoff attempt.
She then moved to third on a hit back to the pitcher and scored on a single up the middle.
In the bottom of the seventh, Black got on base after being hit by the pitch. DeFeo reached on an error and River Hill had two runners on with no outs.
Kat Varga singled but Black was thrown out at third. Later, the Hawks had runners at first and second with two outs.
Katie Woolls hit the game-winning single to score DeFeo, who was initally called out, but the ruling was overturned and River Hill pulled out a close victory.

No. 15 Marriotts Ridge 9, Hammond 1
Marriotts Ridge used a six-run fourth inning to beat host Hammond, 9-1.
Pitcher Brianna Freeman gave up three hits and one earned run while striking out six to pace the Mustangs ().
Marriotts Ridge opened the fourth, aided by four walks and two Hammond errors. Nicole Drummond singled in a run.
In the sixth, Gwen Kokes reached on an error with one out and was driven in by Freeman’s double. Kaitlin Paddy drove in Freeman with a single and Amy Mitchell drove in Paddy.
