Outlook: A couple of early season surprise teams in Howard County meet. Oakland Mills surpassed its win total from last season with a 49-14 rout as Chris Childers and Terrance Drew each scored twice.

Troy Schofield caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jarrod Montaya on the game’s opening play. The Scorpions opened the season with a 32-16 victory over Centennial with Montoya scoring on a pair of 2-yard runs and throwing a 46-yard touchdown to Schofield.

Howard kept Mount Hebron winless with a 45-20 decision last weekend. Lions coach Bruce Strunk has gotten production from senior Ryan Bacus and juniors Shamir Parham and Joey Bonavitacola. Parham had three touchdowns in the Lions’ season-opening 49-6 victory over Marriotts Ridge.

Howard defeated Oakland Mills, 35-3, last season. The Lions led 28-0 at halftime as AJ Bonavitacola and Bacus each scored two touchdowns. The Scorpions last defeated the Lions in 2004, 26-16.
