Over the last several seasons, Anne Arundel County boys’ basketball has earned a reputation for high-scoring games. Friday night’s Arundel/Broadneck wasn’t one of them.
The Wildcats scratched out a 36-33 decision over the 16th ranked Bruins. David Nicholson and Billy Fowler each scored nine points for Arundel (2-2 overall, 2-1 Anne Arundel), which led by as many as 16 points in the second half.
Bobby Bates scored a game-high 14 points for Broadneck (3-1, 2-1 Anne Arundel), which trailed 22-8 at intermission before rallying to take a one-point lead in the fourth. It was short-lived as Fowler hit two free throws on the ensuing possession.
The Wildcats host Annapolis Area Christian Saturday evening in the Anne Arundel Public vs. Private mixer. Broadneck hosts Severn School in the other match.
