Dominic Hezekiah carried the ball just seven times for 38 yards, but he scored three times, to lead No. 14 Archbishop Curley to a 42-6 MIAA B Conference football victory over St. Mary’s, Friday night in Annapolis.
Hezekiah’s third score of the day was setup by his own interception.
Curley jumped out to a 21-0 lead. Hezekiah scored on a nine-yard first quarter run, before Joe Evans rushed for a seven-yard score in the second quarter, followed by a 43-yard touchdown pass from Luke Stidham to Anthony Williams.
St. Mary’s got on the board with a 10-yard run from Nathan Lewnes, just prior to halftime, but the Saints would not score again.
Hezekiah scored again in the third quarter, from six yards, and he added a two-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Curley capped its scoring with a 46-yard run by Avery Williams.
Evans finished with 66 yards rushing on 13 carries, while Avery Williams gains 84 yards on just four carries.
Curley is now 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the B Conference, the Friars maintain a half game lead over Archbishop Spalding, Boys’ Latin and St. Paul’s. Both Spalding and St. Paul’s, which Curley has defeated, won on Friday, while BL, which gave the Friars their loss, is idle this week.
Curley will play a non-conference game against the Maryland Christian Saints next week, before closing its league schedule at John Carroll in two weeks.
Boys’ Latin will be at John Carroll next week, before closing its regular season at home against St. Paul’s. Spalding will be at St. Paul’s next week, before wrapping up its league schedule at St. John’s Catholic Prep.
