A surprisingly tight first half opened up on the first drive of the third quarter as No. 11 Hereford took the second half’s opening kick and marched 70 yards to establish a 21-6 lead in its Thursday night football encounter with Aberdeen.
The Bulls, playing their home opener, would go on to a 28-6 win, improving their season record to 2-1, while the visiting Eagles fell to 0-3.
Hereford took the lead in the first quarter when junior Will Bittner scored on a 16 yard run, following a blocked punt by Austin Brown in the Aberdeen red zone. The Eagles, however, took the shot and hit back, as Michael Kelly picked off a second quarter pass by Herford’s Tom Patti and returned it 85 yards for a score.
The Eagles were unable to convert the extra point try and Hereford increased its lead 14-6 on the next possession. Isiah Taylor advanced the ensuing kick deep into Aberdeen territory and Vince DePaola capitalized with a 20 yard TD run.
DePaola also capped the third quarter scoring drive, with a six-yard run, and the Bulls tacked on another six-yard TD run, this time by Tim Bristol, in the final quarter, to ice the victory.
