No. 14 Bulls blank the defending 2A state champs

In a contest where neither team created many scoring chances, No. 14 Hereford took advantage of the one quality one it had, scoring the only goal of the game, as they defeated No. 3 Eastern Tech, the reigning 2A boys soccer state champions, 1-0, in the 2A North Region Section I final, Friday afternoon at CCBC-Essex.

Cole Gibbons delivered the victory with an unassisted goal, in the 53rd minute and the two teams combined for only five additional shots on goal.

“We are very proud of our student athletes and they were honest about the work they put in to get this far,” said Hereford coach Adam Mizell. “Full credit to Eastern Tech as they had a tremendous season and played a great match that could have easily went the other way. It was by no means a Mona Lisa, but at this point it’s simply about surviving, and today we were fortunate enough to find a way.”

The Bulls will now host Patterson of Baltimore City on Monday (5:45 p.m.) in North Region final. The Clippers advanced with a 4-3 win over Central in the Section II final.
