The Urbana Hawks came out strong against their foe Century, Wednesday, and despite see-sawing the lead, came out on top of the dual meet, 40-36.
Urbana won the first four bouts of the night, Starting at 112 with David Abretski’s major decision and moving on to back-to-back-to-back falls by Brandon Plante, Matt Steinheimer and Nick Frank at 119, 125 and 130, respectively.
But Century is not a team to lay down and give up a mach without a fight, coming back with four pins of their own to post a 24-22 lead change with six bouts remaining.
Pinning in the streak was Kyle Tye (135), Allen Wilson (140), Logan Ryder (145) and Kurt Buckingham (152).
Trading the lead four more times, it came down to an Alex Ngo forfeit at 103 to overturn the Centry lead at 36-34 into the Urbana final, 40-36.
Other winners in the night included Urbana’s Daniel Johnston (160), Joe Rimel (189) and Matt Semelsberger (215), while Century recorded wins with Nick Sellars (171) and Kent Kruger (285).
