The Urbana wrestling program opened its 2010-2011 season with a big win over Westminster, Monday, capping their foes with a 54-27 victory.

Urbana dropped to an early 15-6 deficit, seeing Westminster’s Darin Meador (145) and Ryan Eckenbauer (152) work falls next to an overtime decision by Clint Martin (160), but an earlier fall by Urbana’s own 152-pound Jake Thomas, matched with four-straight pins would give them a 30-15 reversal of the lead.

In the stretch, falls were recorded by Mike Vernelson (171), Joe Rimel (189), Matt Semesberger (215) and heavyweight Danny Hipkins.

Westminster’s Dennis Marmalyukar and Tyler Green would earn falls at 103 and 130, respectively, but the effort would be belittled by the two forfeits at 119 and 125, and 112-pound David Abretski with135-pound JT Freete both sticking their opponents to close the 54-27 win.
