No. 19 Fallston battled back from 28-6 fourth quarter deficit, Friday night at Havre de Grace, but the host Warriors held off the Cougars to claim a 41-29 victory, which may secure them the top seed for the 1A East Region playoffs.
Darian Washington threw three touchdown passes for Havre de Grace (8-2, 6-1) and iced the victory with a 57-yard scoring run with two minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
Fallston (8-2, 5-2) scored three times in the fourth quarter and added a pair of two-point conversions as well as an extra point kick to make things interesting. Andy Thrasher scored on a one-yard run and Fallston added a two-point pass from Grant Kelly to Nate Sievers to cut the Warrior lead to 28-14. Havre de Grace countered with a six-yard TD pass from Washington to Travonn Bond, but Zimmie Nwaigwe re-energized the Cougars with an 82-yard touchdown return on the next kickoff.
Kelly then tossed a four-yard touchdown pass to John Eichelberger, with less than three minutes to play, before Washington finally closed the door.
Havre de Grace led 14-0 at the end of one quarter as Mike Kelly raced for a 20-yard touchdown run and Washington hit Dayshawn Bolling for a four-yard touchdown pass. Marc Badger put Fallston on the board in the second quarter with a two-yard run, as the Cougars trailed 14-6 at the half.
Kelly scored again in the third quarter for Havre de Grace, on a 22 yard run and Washinton opened the fourth quarter with a seven-yard scoring pass to Bolling, to build the 28-6 lead.
The victory places Havre de Grace second in the Chesapeake Division of the UCBAC, while Fallston finished third. North Harford completed an undefeated regular season with a 27-0 win over Elkton, Friday, to win the conference.
