Longtime Lakers boys’ coach replacing Penny Hardaway
Lake Clifton High boys’ basketball coach Herman Harried was named Thursday as an assistant coach for the USA Junior National Select Team.
The U.S. team will play the World Select Team in the Nike Hoop Summit, April 13 in Portland.
Harried replaces Penny Hardaway, who was named the new men’s basketball coach at the University of Memphis earlier in the week.
Harried previously led the US Nike Hoop Summit Team to victory in 2006 and the East Team to a bronze medal in the 2004 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival. As a USA Basketball assistant, Harried was part of gold winning squads at the 2009 FIBA Americas U-16 Championships and FIBA U-17 World Cup in 2017.
Harried, a member of the legendary Dunbar teams of the early-mid 1980s, recently guided Lake Clifton to the Class 2A state championship. Harried, who collected his 400th victory this past season, has guided the east Baltimore school to four state titles and four city championships in 21 seasons.
