Bonus points are crucial in dual meet wins, and just the slightest point from a 7-0 to 8-0 score can mean the win.

But that wasn’t the case between Hammond and marriotts Ridge, Tuesday, when the Bears won eight matches, five by falls, to record the 40-27 win over the Mustangs.

Marriotts Ridge came out of the gate with force, winning decisions at 119 and 125 from Reny Thomas and Ian Hochuli, respectively, and two six-point wins from 103-pounder Jeff Barbera and Colin Morse (112) for the 18-0 lead.

But it was nearly an all Hammond meet after the light weights, seeing the Bears win four straight and eight of the last 10 matches to walk away victorious.

The five Hammond pins were won by Wilson Low (135), Jonathan Goodwin (140), Bryan Overton (145), Baldwin Asula (215) and Pavton Rose (285), while fellow teammates Devin Mundy (130), Mathias Ngang (160) and Kyle Harrington (189) all worked decisions over their opponents.

Marriotts Ridge recorded two wins in the middle of Hammonds run, seeing Troy Fitzpatrick and Steven Vaughn win at 171 and 152, respectively.
