A close first half turned into a blowout in the third quarter when Hammond took control of the game and claimed a 71-40 rout of Long Reach on Friday night.

The Golden Bears led 13-12 after one quarter and 28-23 at the half.  The third quarter was a different story.  Hammond outscored the visiting Lightning, 25-6 in the frame to open up the game.

David Patrick scored a game-high 23 points and Demetrius Powell added 22 for Hammond.  Ife Bello contributed 13.

Long Reach was led by Davon Nowlin’s 13 point effort. 

The Golden Bears rebounded from Wednesday’s 58-55 loss to Centennial to improve their record to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Howard County.  The Lightning remain winless with a 0-3, 0-1 mark.
