Franklin High’s Dustin Halle is the week three winner of Extra Innings’ Baseball Player of the Week award. The sophomore third basemen had the big hits as the Baltimore County school won twice last week.
In his first at-bat against Western Tech, Halle doubled to right centerfield with the bases loaded as the Indians went on to an 11-3 decision April 6.
“Our big hitters had struck out so I just tried to get the job done,” said Halle, a two-year varsity performer.
It was almost déjà vu the next day against Parkville. With the game tied 1-1 in the fourth, Halle had another three-run double and the Reisterstown school posted a 7-3 decision.
“From day one, coach [Tim] Gordon has emphasized playing well in county games,” Halle said. “To get that hit I think really set the tone for us.”
It was the only two hits of the week for Halle, who went 2 for 7 with 6 RBI and scored two runs. On the season, he’s hitting .333 (5-of-15) with five runs scored and eight RBI for the Indians (5-1 overall), who are the top team in Baltimore County.
“Dustin has added unbelievable value to the bottom of our line-up. Having a guy like Dustin to pick up the middle of the order speaks volumes to our depth,” said Gordon. “Everyone on this team knows the guy behind them is capable of doing the job.”
Each week during the spring season, Extra Innings will recognize an outstanding performance by a softball and baseball player. The winner will receive a plaque, courtesy of Extra Innings.
To nominate a player, send an e-mail to email@example.com, no later than Monday at 1 p.m. each week. The nomination must cover games played Monday to Saturday from the prior week.
The contest is open to players on public and private baseball and softball teams in Baltimore County and Harford County, and Cecil County public teams.
